Shiseido Pureness is a line for acne-prone skin, and after washing, it leaves a really refreshed feeling. I actually like the bubbly, creamy texture. There are small blue beads inside, but they're not abundant enough to expect a strong scrubbing effect. So I'd say there's no irritation from the beads. When I was a university student, a Shiseido store employee tried to persuade me to buy the Qiora line instead of the Pureness I wanted, claiming it was a better line. I gave it a try, but my skin ended up in a terrible state, so I stuck to the Pureness product for a long time after that. This cleansing foam has never caused me severe breakouts.
ConsIt's actually said that the bubbly, creamy texture isn't good for the skin. Our skin is slightly acidic, so using a similar pH-balanced cleanser is better for the skin. When using an acidic cleanser, you'd normally feel a more smooth, non-squeaky clean sensation, which is normal. Cleansers with an alkaline pH can be quite irritating to the skin, especially for sensitive skin types. However, I personally have a hard time getting used to the smooth, non-squeaky feeling. Even after using this product for over 10 years, my acne hasn't really improved. The Pureness Matifying Moisturizer I used along with it did help control oil better, but the things that were most effective for my acne were tea tree oil and benzoyl peroxide. Cosmetic products have their limits compared to actual medicinal treatments. On days when I feel I may have over-scrubbed a bit, I'd always get some redness and a slight stinging sensation. The Shiseido Elixir Superieur Savon I'm using now, on the other hand, seems to actually calm down any existing redness, even with over-scrubbing. It seems to be much less irritating. (But then again, Elixir Superieur is ridiculously expensive...) This product likely isn't pH-balanced either, since it still has that squeaky clean feeling.
TipOn days when you want your face to feel thoroughly cleansed, especially during the summer, go ahead and use this product. But if you feel like it's causing skin irritation, occasionally switch to a gentler cleanser in between to soothe your skin.
